Kewaunee Scientific and Rainlight Launch CoDA

Kewaunee Scientific tapped international design studio Rainlight to create a new laboratory furniture benching system that will help drive innovation. With its adjustable height surfaces, moveable shelving and integrated lighting, CODA’s modular design can respond to each client’s distinct needs. Elegantly simple companion tables complement the main system to create harmonious work settings.

“The contemporary workplace has changed dramatically, whether it’s a tech office or an R&D facility. However, not all lab environments have kept pace,” said Dana Dahlgren, vice president of Sales and Marketing, Kewaunee Scientific. “CODA brings flexibility and adaptability into the lab while creating an environment that supports the teamwork and collaboration that are integral to success.”

“We are launching a new product that will improve how scientists work,” said Yorgo Lykouria, creative director, Rainlight. “The notion of supporting collaboration and openness in the lab has historically not been the highest concern in lab bench design, which tends to compartmentalize people into their own work streams. With CODA, we are bringing art into science.”

“Laboratory furniture has traditionally been boxy, bulky and cast with hard corners. CODA breaks from that tradition with soft edges, sleek design and luxurious lines allowing CODA elements to flow naturally between laboratory, creative and collaborative spaces,” said Chris Webb, CODA team leader at Kewaunee Scientific.

With spans of up to 10 feet long between structural supports, CODA’s bench enables greater flexibility for lab layout. These long spans divide into five-foot modules that give users optimal versatility to personalize their space by adjusting work surface heights or inserting tall equipment. Vertical elements can accommodate video displays, sinks with recessed drying racks or other components.

To serve clients with lab needs for both new and existing buildings, Kewaunee can manufacture CODA to nearly any configuration.

Advances in technology enable learning and discovery to now happen anywhere, not exclusively in a lab. CODA’s flexible product family mirrors these new workplace practices. As technology continues to shrink in size, this adaptable system will be able to respond.
